Before adopting a Crested Gecko

Adopting an animal is not trivial. It has to be a carefully considered decision. Here is some basic information you should know before adopting a Crested Gecko (or Correlophus ciliatus).

 

Origin: New Caledonia

Adult size : 20 to 25 cm

Life Span : 7 to 12 years

Biotope: Semi-humid to humid

Temperature :

Humidity: 60 to 80%

Lighting: Heat lamp, 12 to 14h per day, UVB optional

Food: 70% frugivorous, 30% insectivorous, Repashy, Pangea, Clark’s diet, Arcadia, ZooMed and Komodo are good alternatives. Crickets and small worms can complement their diet very well. Also consider calcium supplements and multivitamins.

Substrate: Coconut fiber, earth, sphagnum moss

Terrarium: Minimum 30×30×45 cm (12’’×12’’×18’’), shelter and water tank to submerge itself

Molting: Spray to increase the humidity, otherwise there exist an automatic spray system.

Necessary items: Terrarium, substrate, thermometer, hygrometer, hiding places, heating ballast, bulb, foliage, food clip, decorations, thermostat, automatic watering system, branch, lianas, sphagnum moss, calcium, multivitamins
